Hi ! This is Suci, from Korea.
I came to Yogja to study bahasa Indonesia for my feild work. I stayed in Homestay Heru for 3 weeks, and it was great !!
Heru Family are friedly and humorous and kind!
Also my room was clean, big enough, quiet and cool.
People who stayed together are also really good.
Thank you very much for caring me,
And I hope I can see you again.

Nicolas

Dear friends,
Already four weeks I left your home stay going to Bali for a relaxing holiday. I came back in Switzerland mid February. Just that day it was snowing the whole day, it has been freezing cold. As I got a cold I thought better to stay at home and hibernating for some weeks, giving me time to look back in the past.
I was just looking at your website, did you change it during the last weeks. I have read the message of Suci and of Dietrich. He already left? Camilla is still at yours? Does she succeed in her research? It is not a simple task organising a research in a city you do not know the local foundations.
The time I spent in Jogja was an excellent time. Four weeks without any struggle for life, “une vie sans souci comme disent les Francais”. Next July I will attend a Thanksgiving Worship day remembering the 175 years of Christianity in Pakantan, a small village in a remote area of Sumatra. Being in Indonesia at that time, I am already planning to go to the school Alam Bahasa for one or two weeks, depending on the summer holidays of my grandchildren. Why not? I had such a nice time at yours!
Kadang kadang ada mimpian tentang Jogja, saya ingin kembali lagi! Sampai bertemu lagi, who knows?? Many salam manis, Marietje
Hello everybody! My name is Josien Aarntzen and I am from The Netherlands. I study anthropology in Nijmegen, a town in the east of The Netherlands. My university has given me the chance to finish my last bachelor year with a research in Indonesia. So, now I am in Jogjakarta and I’ve a great time here! Jogjakarta is a nice town with friendly and warm people. Everyone is helpful and that’s good for my research of course!
The subject of my research is about fitness and the ideal body for men and women. In Jogjakarta are a lot a places where you can sport and also where you can fitness. Most important reasons for Indonesian people for visiting fitness centres are a healthy and beautiful body. The body has a central place in Indonesia. Except sport places, there are a lot of facilities for body care, like spa’s and salons. You can choose a treatment for your face, your feed or hands, your hair or the whole body. Choices enough! The spa’s/ salons and also the sport places are not only for the local people but also for tourists and students like me. So, actually my research feels a bit like a holiday!
My research is also a success because of my nice and sociable homestay: Heru. In the first place the location of the homestay is perfect for visiting the sport facilities and spa’s in Jogja. And in the second place, the family who runs the homestay is very helpful and friendly. They make that I feel at home in Jogja.
I would like to end my text with a few Dutch sentences. Thank you! Terima kasih!
Jestem Anita z Polski, lecz mieszkam i studjuj? w Niemczech.
I musze przyzna?, ?e by?o super! Mi?a, ?yczliwa atmosfera… znakomite regionalne jedzenie i super ludzie z ca?ego ?wiata.

Groetjes Janneke

I also would like to say that I can really recommend staying at the family Heru. It’s a kind and nice family who are prepared to help you out whenever needed. Next to that, there are quite a lot of students of Bahasa Indonesia from all over the world, which makes the homestay even more pleasant and interesting. There is almost always somebody around for small talk in the common living room or at one of the balconies, but in case you like to work in a quiet environment, you can retreat in your own room as well. Than I haven’t mentioned the delicious and healthy food yet, that is served every evening.
All in all: have fun at the family Heru, and enjoy the time being there !
we dicovered this place on july.
The family is really friendly, nice house, quiet place in the center of jojakarta, good food, and you can meet a lot of student who learn indonesian language.
The family has also a new restaurant than you have to discover
Please try the bakso and the tempe, typically of this place.
The family can give you a lot of information about all the interesting places to visit around jojakarta.
Greating from sylvie and harlen to the rest of the family.

Having stayed in this homestay for more than 3 months I can honestly say it felt like home. The Heru family is incredibly friendly and helpful and so are the other guests. Doing both research as well as a language course I found that it was the perfect place to come home to after a busy day. It is an ideal place to work or study, and if you feel like doing something fun, there are always other interesting guests who will join you. It is in a good location, and they have everything you might need like internet, air-conditioning and great food. Shops, swimming pools and language schools are close by and everything else is perfectly reachable by taxi, bus or (motor)bike. So if you are looking for a place to stay in Yogyakarta, go here.
I certainly hope I can go back someday!
Dear family, First of all I want to wish you all a happy Newyear. And ofcourse I want to thank you for the great time I had, staying at the homestay. I will surely recommand students to stay in your fantastic house, with its homely atmosphere and excellent cooking. I felt very welcome and I think your hospitality is great. I will come back for sure when I am visiting Yogya and hope to stay with you again.
We got lucky, when the organisation we’re working for booked us into the Heru house. I think it’s the best homestay in Jogja. Our colleagues went to two other places that were almost as nice.
But Homestay Heru is more relaxed. No banging on your door if five minutes late for dinner; no frowns or locked doors if home at midnight, though of course they like to know in advance if possible.
What can I say? It’s a HOME. Good food, friendly, interesting family and helpful staff. Lots of things to do nearby and close to some of the best language schools.
We greatly enjoyed staying in your home over the last five or so weeks and will always remember it as a real home away from home. There were so many good things about living with you that it’s hard not to be effusive.
To start with, we found the atmosphere of the house with its large open spaces, lovely gardens, balconies and tasteful decorations, to be very comfortable. Our upstairs bedroom at the front of the house was perfect for our needs. It was very spacious and with the gardened balcony in front and its connecting walkway to the other front balcony, our room was like having a garden home to ourselves.
We also loved the sense of family that you provided especially around the dinner table. The food, always delicious, was just so good that we hardly thought about going elsewhere to eat. Mealtimes at the dining table (for breakfast and dinner) with the other quests were also always enjoyable and we greatly appreciated your good humored help in our attempts to speak and understand Bahasa Indonesia.
Oh, and I must say that the facilities you provided were great too. The free access to wifi, to bicycles and having our laundry done everyday, well, it was all just what we needed. We were sad to leave and hope we get the chance to stay there again in the future. We are certainly happy to recommend your homestay to anyone interested in having a great place to stay while visiting Jogjakarta.
Thank you for your comment bout my homestay. here are my answer through your question,
1. Gate is close at midnight but if you will come home late we will give you key.
2. yes you are allowed to receive guest in the lobby.
3. yes sure you can pack your own food if you will come home late but please let us know.
4. there’s lot of music shop around Jogja and also there are studio rental. i don’t know really specific about keyboard or piano but when you arrive here you can ask them about it.
in future please send us through email at lestariheru@yahoo.com so it will be easier.
