Welcome to Homestay Heru – your home away from home in Yogyakarta, the Javanese Sultanate with a rich cultural heritage. We are a small family-run homestay located in the heart of Yogyakarta’s prestigious university district and conveniently located to explore this historical city. Our peaceful house is traditionally decorated and is light and airy. We have designed our house to ensure the enjoyment of our tropical garden and its cool breezes, along with fine views of Mount Merapi.

We cater to many visitors from overseas, including those basing themselves in Yogyakarta to study or conduct research at the nearby universities such as Gadjah Mada University. Other visitors stay with us whilst learning Bahasa Indonesia or Javanese at the nearby language schools. Alam Bahasa and Wisma Bahasa All visitors are welcome and we pride ourselves on offering an insight into Javanese culture as well as providing traditional Javanese food in a family environment. Members of our family are able to communicate in English, a little French and of course Indonesian and Javanese!

We are a traditional Yogyakartan family, with strong links into the local community and we always try to encourage understanding between our visitors and the Indonesian people. After the devastating earthquake near Yogyakarta in 2006 we, and our visitors, supported some of those who lost their homes and were able to provide food and raise money to help rebuild their lives.
